During my time in the Navy, I trained adults in areas of maritime navigation and equipment operation. Even in those odd circumstances, I discovered a love for patient teaching. I have been able to use that experience in homeschooling my son, who is a "special needs" learner. My experience in teaching children began when he was two, and continues on to this day.
My teaching style is best described as slow and steady. Being a homeschooling parent of a very early reader and writer posed interesting complexities, or what I call "happy problems." Having to curtail a curriculum for a child with high intelligence, but age-appropriate maturity was tricky. I employ slow and caring teaching to help cement important fundamentals of math, English and Spanish, too.
