TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I graduated with bachelor's degree in elementary education and then received my K-8 teaching license (5-8 social studies) after student teaching at the fabulous Clara Barton Open school in Minneapolis. Teaching here allowed me to see the power of a strong administration and teaching staff who integrated an open, responsive, learning environment. Served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bulgaria from 2010 to 2012 teaching English as a Foreign language to 1st - 12th grade students. During this time I also taught teacher training workshops to local teachers to develop their skills of integrating games and other activities into the curriculum. I returned to my studies after the Peace Corps to attain my Masters of Library and Information Studies from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and my Masters of Education from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. I most recently taught at Fairmont Elementary in Fairmont, MN, as their library media specialist for early childhood through sixth grade. I'm inspired to search for and create resources to fulfill the needs and wants of my students, colleagues, and community. I'm currently working from home and am most interested in student-center learning. I love using PBAs and Menus!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in an integrated educational environment which best reflects life. Most people's days are not split into subject areas; therefore, I enjoy creating projects for students which embrace a variety of subjects, interests, and learning styles. Additionally, I strive to integrate information literacy into all subject areas. Most importantly, I work to learn what what's most important to my students and colleagues in order to meet them where they're at and serve them to the best of my abilities. I believe social justice, a culturally responsive approach, setting learning goals, and maintaining high expectations.
