I taught grade four through eight in private schools for eleven years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. I have been promoting outdoor play through education in one form or another for seven years now. I started a nature-based education consulting business a few years ago and just last year added a physical product to my business. cityLIFE nature kits is an interdisciplinary nature-based education program. Currently, I am teaching my program at a local homeschool learning community for ages six through fourteen.
My teaching style embraces the following philosophies. I believe children learn best when they are able to follow their own interests. Nature-based learning uses nature as a learning tool to stimulate children's interest. Interacting with natural objects is a great way to stimulate sensory learning and is a wonderful tool for those who learn best through sensory stimulation. Using nature is also a great way to incorporate systems based learning which demonstrates the connectedness of all things. I also believe if students understand the place right outside their own door, they are better able to understand the larger world around them.

I am the mom of 3, two boys and a girl, ages 26, 24 and 7. I’m a nature enthusiast at heart, planning mini-adventures for my family, anything from a short walk on the trail beside our apartment in Austin when my boys were little, to a moonlit kayak trip on the river near our present home in Maine.
