BA in Literature from University of Central Florida
A native of South Florida, C.K. Carter graduated from UCF in 2001 with a B.A. in Literature. Since graduating, she worked as a high school English teacher and award-winning journalism adviser. C.K. started writing her first children's book in 2011, after telling her eldest son an improvised bedtime story. His constant requests for the tale prompted her to write it down and begin her publishing journey. In 2012, C.K. enlisted the illustration services of her former newspaper student, Ricardo J. Rodriguez, to create the pictures for the book, which was published August 6, 2013. Her first book, The Castle Across the Street, was awarded a Silver President's Book Award on August 9, 2014 by the Florida Authors and Publishers Association. A year after losing her first dog, C.K. wrote and published her second book, My Silly Dog Gus, as a reminder of the happiest and funniest times with the family pet. My Silly Dog Gus was awarded a Silver IBPA Benjamin Franklin Digital Book Award in December 2014. C.K. published her third book, The Castle Across the Street: Prince Jackson Goes to School, in Summer 2015 and has plans for other books to follow.
