After completing my MAEd in Secondary Education, I began my career in 2004, teaching 8th grade Language Arts for 21st Century Public Academy, a charter middle school, serving grades 5-8. I taught in that position for 8 years, eventually earning a Level III Master Teacher license in the state of New Mexico. I then moved to teach seventh grade at Albuquerque Academy, one of the strongest independent schools in the U.S. I have been teaching in this position since 2012. In addition, I have taught various summer classes in reading and writing for grades 4-9.
I bring energy and enthusiasm to my classroom. I often teach in 10-15 min segments so that the students keep moving at a steady pace throughout a class period. I have a regimented management style to keep them focused. I also spend most of my time mingling with students as they work on their assignments. I try to balance reading and writing instruction, equally. Our curriculum is flexible, leaving room for me to create my own assignments, lessons, and units. We are novel-based for reading. Teaching is my PASSION!
