TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Started teaching later than most, at age 37. That was 18 years ago. I was fortunate to receive Reading Recovery training early on and got to split my time between teaching reading and 2nd grade for many years. Went to full-time Reading Specialist for a couple of years and am now back in the classroom full time - 3rd grade. I love what technology has dove for teahing and learning. No need to use engagement strategies with an iPad -engagement is guaranteed!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I'm a "follow the child" teacher. Building on what they know/almost know is my forte'. It was easier to accomplish as a Reading Specialist than it is with a whole class. I'm teaching 3rd grade now, which is great, but not as great as being a Reading Specialist.... Such is life...

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I went to Santa Rosa J.C. And transferred to UC Davis where I got a BA in Economics. Had several jobs- from Import/Export to medical billing to advertising to grant management before becoming teacher (at age 37). 18 years later, it's still the best decision I ever made!
