I have taught special education classes for Pre-K-fifth grade. My passion is teaching reading and I know how hard it is to keep it organized and to keep the children engaged and focused on specific reading skills. Word Study has proven to be a big part of the answer for my students' literacy needs. The most daunting challenge is keeping all the little parts and pieces and especially the word cards organized in a way that makes sense so that academic time is not eaten away by time-consuming set up and put away routines.
My teaching style is student centered and I provide as much freedom as I can to help students take responsibility for their own learning. An individualized approach to Word Study helps individual children to climb the literacy ladder to reading success. Using Climb Higher and Word Study Organized has really helped me provide individualization and remediate exact, targeted deficiencies to boost reading achievement.

I graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with three major content areas (Special Education, English Literature, and Psychology.) I have raised four wonderful children and have worked in various child-focused activities over the years, actually teaching in schools a total of seven years. Much of my work has been done in a private tutoring situation, so I have developed an appreciation of the targeted instruction that can be provided in that setting. It is possible to help larger numbers of students with this model if you look at individual needs and provide a variety of activities at each level.
