I began teaching EFL in Costa Rica after graduating from UW-Eau Claire. I then coordinated an ESL/ELL K-12 program in central Wisconsin for four great years. Now, I'm working in a district where my focus will be integrating the SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) model in a co-teaching context. Therefore, I will be creating a tremendous amount of culturally responsive and visually enhanced materials in throughout the years to come.
I believe second language acquisition follows a path similar to our first language. How do we learn as young children? VISUALS!!! SCAFFOLDING!!! MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO PRACTICE!!! These are key values that guide me while creating materials to help ESL/ELL students (and other at-risk learners) achieve greater success in the mainstream classroom.
Some of my undergraduate work has been published in books and magazines and I also had the opportunity to present at a national conference. The greatest honor/award I have earned thus far in my teaching career is having been able to see so many of my ESL/ELL students walk the stage at graduation!
Graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 2009 with Latin American Studies and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Licensed to Teach ESL and Spanish in Wisconsin and Colorado.
I love traveling and learning about new cultures. These passions come to life in the visually enhanced, high-quality materials I create for my students.
