I began working with kids during high school as part of a work experience class, consisting of aiding groups of 5-6 seventh graders in reading comprehension. Immediately upon graduating I began working as an instructional aide for Covina Valley USD. There I worked for 6 years with students grades K-5 from small groups to entire classrooms. Under supervision of a certified teacher, I created and implemented lesson plans correlating with specific subject matter per teacher requests. In addition I wrote and illustrated two children's books which were circulated in the Valencia Library Media Center. After school I worked with struggling 2nd graders through an intervention program while starting and maintaining a private tutoring business on the side.
As long as it is executed respectfully, I will always encourage a student to challenge what they are told if done so with logical and structured opposition. I am an advocate of infusing art into any subject matter possible. The ability to connect with information personally aids in long term absorption. I believe art creates an avenue which not only helps in making personal connections, but also allows a certain celebration of individuality. In addition to art used as a teaching companion, the importance of creation art for art's sake should also be recognized. Art allows all students to excel because there is no right way to create. This in turn builds confidence as students are given the opportunity to explore their own artistic abilities and style.

Though I am not a teacher yet, working with and creating for kids is where my talents are best utilized. More importantly, it is where my passion lies. My goal is to leave this world better than I found it. Helping to inspire a spark of enthusiasm, imagination, a creative thought, a boost of confidence in our future is the best way I can see to make that goal a reality.
