I began teaching in Chicago, over ten years ago, in a typical inner city high school. Since then, my family and I moved to SC for the opportunity to buy a home. I have taught at-risk students, AP Literature and all that is between. Currently I teach American Lit Honors and English 101 and 102 at the local Junior College.
I believe that all students want to be successful, but sometimes, they just don't know what that means. I am hands on, in their space, pushing and pulling to get my students to write what they know - so that other people can understand it too!
I've worked in SC for 5 years and in those years have twice been a runner up for teacher of the year (we have around 115 teachers). I am also a National Board Certified Teacher and I hold certificates in AP Literature and teaching of Gifted and Talented students.
I have a BA from the Univeristy of Illinois at Chicago in English and History and a MA from the University of Illinois in English.
Like you, I love teaching. I believe that good teachers are the foundation of a good society and that education is the answer to ending cyclical poverty. I hope that you find my work helpful and inspiring.
