I have taught in Minnesota and South Dakota since 1995. My experience includes preschool, half-day kindergarten, all-day, every-day kindergarten, third grade, fourth grade, and Title I reading in grades K-2.
My students are engaged in an active literacy environment. My reading workshop time includes a large-group mini-lesson, independent work, guided reading, and an interactive read-aloud. My students also have a daily writing workshop time which includes a mini-lesson, independent writing, and individual conferencing. I am a big fan of Fountas and Pinnell, Aimee Buckner, Katie Wood Ray, Ralph Fletcher, and The Two Sisters.

I have a Bachelor's degree in elementary and early childhood education and a Master's degree in reading education.
My husband is a middle school principal, which makes for some interesting conversations at our house! We have three busy kids who are growing up way too fast. In my "spare time", I work with our school's Destination Imagination program and volunteer with our church's youth education program.
