TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been an elementary school counselor at a Title One school for three years. The demographic of my population of students is very diverse, but 97% of them live in poverty. Serving this demographic certainly has its challenges, but I absolutely love being a school counselor! I feel called to do this work, and even on my toughest of days, my students that I am so blessed to serve make it all worth-while!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a BIG believer in teaching our primary and intermediate students a strong foundation for social-emotional learning that can help them become successful 21st century learners. I am not typically one to "lecture" students, but much prefer a cooperative, engaging, open dialogue teaching style. I find that my students make deeper connections when they are able to practice the skills I am teaching. They teach me something new every time I teach them!

I have my BA in Communication Studies from Clemson University and my Masters of Education in School Counseling also from Clemson.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

The life of a school counselor is fun, rewarding, challenging and BUSY! I do try to keep my blog updated throughout the school year, but admittedly, I fall behind. Still, I try to update when I have great ideas that I think might help others or when I just really need to vent. Please check it out! http://confessionsofaschoolcounselor.blogspot.com/
