TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have over 6 years of teaching experience beginning with teaching Geography, US History, and World History followed by writing a literacy rich curriculum for a small private school, to writing and piloting a 9th grade college prep curriculum which is now the standard in my school district.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I work at an at risk school in South San Jose, CA and I like to build strong relationships with my students by getting to know their learning styles, their likes and dislikes, and what makes them tick as learners during the first month of school. Yes, the WHOLE month is dedicated to building strong foundational relationships. After that, I interweave literacy strategies into every single lesson plan while cultivating learners who strive to attend college and build skills to help them be successful in high school and in their post secondary education. We always have fun in my classroom while learning.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My college prep class curriculum has been adopted by other schools within my school district. I'm currently working on creating a curriculum book with attached digital resources. The biggest award for me isn't a paper that says you're an awesome teacher, it's when my students come back to me years later and express how they used what I taught them for practical things and say "thank you" which happens more frequently since I launched the college prep class!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelors in Secondary Education in History. Minor Art Studio. Minor Interior Design. Masters of Education in Literacy Studies.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
