I have been a school counselor at a large, public school since 2012 with caseloads of students of about 260 students to 1 school counselor (what a dream!). We have 8 school counselors, and our caseloads are by alphabet. I have supervised a few graduate-level interns from as they prepared to become school counselors.
I am a data-driven school counselor who finds herself using reality therapy and solution-focused counseling techniques. I counsel individual students on academic, social/emotional, and career needs, run small groups, and lead classroom lessons.
My school counseling program was a designated ASCA RAMP School as of 2017. This was a huge honor as we were the only high school in our 14-high-school-district to have received it. This recognizes our data-driven, student-focused initiatives and programming. I was a top 3 Teacher of the Year nominee for my high school a few years ago. I have presented at my state conference a few times and hold the ASCA U Leadership Specialist Certificate and ASCA U College Specialist Certificate. I am trained in the Prepare Crisis Intervention Model and have served on the crisis intervention team in my district. I am a National Career Development Facilitator, and I am a member of my state (PSSCA) and national (ASCA) organizations.
