I am a former Theatre Arts Teacher who is now a High School Counselor in a fabulous high school in Texas. Our school has a Fine Arts Academy and is teeming with wonderful kids and teachers. I am also an LPC Intern working on becoming a full fledged LPC. Working with teens is my true life's calling and I am privileged to be doing what I love.
"Every day is a second chance..." I believe this heartily and my students know that my office is a safe place where they will be accepted and supported. I also believe in straight talk. I don't think I am doing kids any favors by not being honest with them and helping them to find their accountability.

How did I get my slogan? Counselor Shelley “The Cool Counselor who Cares” How did I get my name? As a theatre/music/art person with somewhat of a hippie chick persona, I was thrilled to become a counselor at a performing arts high school in Austin, Texas. It was my first counseling job and naturally, I was terrified! However, I quickly I fell in love with my student’s in all of their creative glory and I was in heaven. After awhile, it got back to me that some of the students were describing me as “the cool counselor who cares.” I got a good chuckle out of that and thought that goofy was more like it. My daughter thought it was great, so I went with it anyway. After all, who doesn’t want their kid to think they are cool? At least a little! Now let it be known that I am NOT very cool! But I DO care! As we all do...
