TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am in my fifth year of teaching elementary music. I have worked in both public and private schools and taught ages 3 - 12. I absolutely LOVE what I do. I have a bachelor's degree in music education, and I am currently working on my Kodaly certification, having completed level 1 last summer.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to have fun in my classroom... who doesn't? :) But I also feel strongly that music education is just that - an education. I teach a Kodaly curriculum but include Orff methodologies regularly. It's important to me that my students walk away with a solid foundation of music theory knowledge and performance skills, but more importantly, that I have helped them to appreciate and love music. The greatest moments are those when a former student tells me they joined the band or choir at their new school, or that they were inspired to start learning an instrument on their own.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have always loved to sing, but my high school music experience is what inspired me to pursue a career in music education. I was lucky enough to have several incredible teachers in both band and choir and I hope to be as inspiring to my students as they were to me. I pursued my music education degree at Webster University in St. Louis, MO. I graduated in 2007.
