I am a First Grade teacher at a Catholic elementary school in Laconia, New Hampshire, and I love it! I spent 17 years teaching in public schools, primarily in FL, and this experience is blowing my mind! I love teaching again!
I believe in structure with surprises. The surprises are what keep the children engaged. It may be Literacy Time, but today we will use stickers! It may be Math Time, but today we will sing a Heidisong and do a little dance! Always, always, there will be quality literature (both old and new) and poetry included in our day. I also believe in important rituals to add richness to our community life, including a special birthday dance, good-morning touches, a traveling home mascot, and an author's chair.
I was a "Distinguished" teacher in the Brevard District of FL. My students are (almost!) always totally engaged, which means we can accomplish a lot more in less time and enjoy ourselves doing it!
I attended the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT. I grew up about 2 miles away in Winooski, VT.
I live in Laconia, NH now with my excellent husband Ed, our rescue Pembroke Corgi Abby, and our sweet kitty Gracie.
