TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hello, I have worked for the past decade at a Title I school with students who are, on average, 3 grade levels behind where they should be. Despite this, I have found the rigorous engagement with literature creates success stories. I have also coordinated and taught in our site's International Baccalaureate program at both the MYP and DP levels.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I think we should teach like the nerds we are. Don't hold back the fascinating parts of literature, put them at the forefront, and the students will be hooked. An urgent classroom is a productive classroom. I believe in making students stretch past their comfort zones, and into new areas of authentic and substantive learning

I have presented these strategies to school districts all over California. Additionally, I have conducted workshops for teachers of all ages and all abilities. These workshops are aimed at increasing critical thinking practice in the classroom. I have also been asked to present at the annual CATE (California Association of Teachers of English) conference.
