TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught for over 40 years in two elementary schools of the Brookline Public School System. I am now a permanent substitute after I retired five years ago. Global studies and creating integrated curriculum units are my passions. In 2009 I won the Outstanding Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award from the National Council of Social Studies. I have received other global awards as well. I am proud that I have created a lot of integrated Social Studies/Language Arts curriculum for the Town of Brookline and the City of Newton.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in teaching in a meaningful integrated curriculum that takes the best of all the educational gurus into consideration. I do not like following scripts and do not believe that one curriculum idea fits all students. I always keep in mind the diverse group of students I have in my class, and re-create curriculum that will be interesting and meaningful to them. Differentiation is a must in order to scaffold and challenge students to keep them engaged.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

In addition to receiving the Outstanding Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award from the National Council of Social Studies in 2009, I won many Brookline Educational Grants to travel to the places I teach, Ghana, Japan, China, India, and Hopiland, in order to capture and create age-appropriate visual introductions of aspects of culture that "hook" and engage students before I supplement the curriculum with informational texts.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated Simmons College with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and Technology. I have always taken Professional Development courses of my choosing to help me grow and consider the diverse needs of my students. I enjoy consulting with towns to help teachers create an integrated engaging curriculum that meet the Common Core Standards with a high level of critical thinking.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am married with two amazing grown children, one daughter and one son, both married, who I am very proud of!!!!! I am a grandmother! We spend a lot of family time together. In my spare time, I love to read and travel.
