TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 21 years. Having taught various grade levels in high school and middle school, I have been teaching elementary school for the past 12 years. I have had experience with a wide variety of subject areas and students from all backgrounds. I am currently teaching 3rd grade reading/language arts, and loving it!

MY TEACHING STYLE

My main goal as a teacher is to instill a love of reading in my students. I hope to show them that, through reading, they can discover new worlds and increase their knowledge base in a way that doesn't feel like work. I use lots of interactive lessons and activities to encourage learning by promoting listening skills and tolerance of the opinions of others. Students are encouraged to express themselves, develop their skills, and learn from their peers in a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been selected to be the 3rd grade team leader. I currently serve (and have served in the past) on our school-based leadership team. Last year, I was fortunate to serve as our school's writing coach. In addition to teaching writing as a resource class, I also taught writing lessons in various grade level classrooms in order to support teachers in integrating our new writing curriculum into their ELA lessons, and was co-coordinator of a Professional Learning Community focusing on writing skills.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of North Florida. I have teaching certification in Elementary Education, ESE, and ESOL.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. My first grade teacher was a kind, patient woman, and I owe to her my interest in and love of teaching.
