TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teaching is an art, creative and inventive. A profession designed to engage and facilitate learners to discover, be discerning and construct meaning about the world around them. In my 20 years of experience, I have taught as a classroom teacher for nine years and as a Theatre Arts itinerate teacher for 11 years. I have worked, collaborated, and created community in at least 58 school sites instructing students and teachers in grades TK to 8th.

MY TEACHING STYLE

As an instructional leader, I have an opportunity to create change when providing professional development. Impactful professional development can engage, enliven, and unveil new ways for educators to learn and to teach. Creativity, Arts, Technology, responsive content innovatively woven together, forming interdependence between the content areas, can fashion an experience teachers and students can remember and will support academic achievement (Aronson & Laughter, 2016).

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have been involved in the Arts for as long as I can remember, but it became vital to me when I entered the third grade. I had come from a private school and surprisingly was behind in all academic areas at our public school. I was constantly being pulled out for remediation. However, I was also being pulled out because I was identified as gifted and talented in the Arts. I had special classes in Art, Theatre, and Music. It allowed me to express myself, gave me an opportunity to excel, and it kept my self-esteem intact while I caught up and eventually did extremely well in other subjects. As a Musical Theatre major and Technical Theater minor I have explored all aspects of Art; Acting, Music, Dance, Scene Design (Visual Art), Directing, Stage management, Prop Management and design, Makeup design, Lighting, Sound, and Media Art.
