All my life I've been an active composer and performer of both classical and jazz music and this has always influenced my pedagogic philosophy for creative music education. I've also have valued the paradoxical significance music carries in society, and how it may be a medium to explore other relationships within our society, particularly those of social justice. I taught music, drama, English, and credit recovery during my practicum in Ottawa (2013-2014). I ran music and English in a school in the UK in the United Kingdom (2014-2015). I am a member of the College Music Society, Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association, and Ontario College of Teachers. I teach private lessons in piano, trumpet, and composition at West End Music, Stittsville. Check it out at http://www.westendmusicschool.com

Composer, trumpeter, educator, provocateur, Benjamin Sajo remembers when his kindergarten teacher marked an X for him to sit under the class’s piano to stop his sehnsucht wanderings about. From spontaneous childhood melodies for long car rides to symphonic Third Stream academic thrill rides (i.e. masters thesis), he’s found a teacher in every acquainted sentient creature Benjamin has played and composed all throughout his life for the jazz big band medium and theatre pit ensembles, and loves exploring and destroying the boundaries of musical—essentially all the artistic--genres, firmly believing there is no rhyme or reason for that sort of snobby exclusive nonsense in the post-modern age. Regardless, he hopes he’s a good guy and an effective I.S. Music/English teacher, appreciating good books, nice animals, and friendly people who share the ideals of a healthy work-life balance.
