I have been teaching elementary education for over 8 years mainly to 3rd - 5th grades. I have worked in international schools in Mexico, Spain, and in the United States. I have heavily focused on English Language Arts and Social Studies, but have also taught Math and Science. I have also taught Journalism and Creative Writing to highschool aged students.
I bring a sense of simplicity, creativity, and thoroughness to my lessons, explanations, and resources. I focus heavily on critical thinking skills, the ability to create and answer essential questions, and on developing a creative spirit in all of my students. I employ a socio-constructivist method in my classroom to encourage teamwork and independent thinking.
I have been the Advisor for the Student Council at my current school for the past 3 years, as well as Instructor/Editor of the school Magazine.
I have a BFA in Sculpture from Portland State University with a focus on Art Education and Art History. I also have a TEFL Certificate from ITTO in Guadalajara, Mexico.
I usually hand make all of my materials and treat my classroom like an art project. Hopefully, some of these items will inspire you and be useful to you in your own class!
