TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Matthew has spent the last 12 years teaching various social studies courses. His main emphasis is on Collegiate-level courses such as AICE AS and A-Level History as well as AP Human Geography. Kassidy has spent the last 8 years also focused on areas of social studies. Her focus has been on AICE AS-Level Psychology as well as AICE AS and A-Level Sociology. Kassidy also teaches Dual Enrollment courses through our local community college-Introduction to Education and Introduction to Diverse Populations.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Student-centered and exploratory. Often progressive with a twist of social reconstructivism, we require our students to analyze all sides of an argument and show evidence for how they might support each side. In the end, students come to their own conclusions.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Matthew was awarded the 2016 School District of Lee County Teacher of the Year. Kassidy was awarded the 2016 School District of Lee County Social Studies Teacher of the Year. Teachers of Distinction award recipients.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Matthew did his undergrad education at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida where he majored in History. After Flagler, Matthew received his MA in History at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He is currently working on his dissertation at FGCU for his Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Kassidy studied at Florida State University where she earned her degree in Sociology. After undergrad, Kassidy earned a masters in Educational Leadership form Florida Gulf Coast University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Matthew and Kassidy have been teaching the AICE (Cambridge) curriculum for the past eight years. With a heavy emphasis on writing, we feel that our students exit our classrooms with an ability to examine content critically from multiple viewpoints with technical support showcased in their arguments.
