TEACHING EXPERIENCE

We homeschooled for 17 years total, which included a fabulous 9 years spearheading History Co-ops, and many years teaching classes in Spanish I, Spanish II, art, art appreciation, algebra and pre-algebra. I have also taught ESL, Outdoor Education, and STEM, and I tutor frequently.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Active teaching as much as possible, from cooking octopus to re-enacting Bunker Hill to creating geometric kites! I try to find wonderful books for my students and like to use primary sources in context. I try to encourage students to find connections to other subjects, values, life, service. In Spanish class, I have had great success with TPRS, originally developed by Blaine Ray. "Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling" encourages creativity, excitement, and engagement in the Spanish class, much more so than when I followed a traditional textbook curriculum.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Smiles, hugs and kisses.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

LOVE very much and am very proud of my three young adult children! Always learning from them as they expand my (slightly nerdy) horizons. Love Christ and follow Him. Love reading, learning, the outdoors, travel, yoga, math, running, skiing...
