I have been teaching at various elementary levels for 15 years. During this "short" time, I have gained experience in every grade level Pre-K through fourth. I am currently teaching fourth grade and love it. I constantly evaluate myself and seek ways to improve my teaching! I enjoyed teaching and learning the Common Core State Standards this past year and look forward to new ideas to implement them in the coming school year.
I believe teaching should be a combination of direct instruction, student discovery, collaboration, and practice. I have participated in many Learning Focused Professional Development Sessions and those strategies are now an integral part of my teaching.
I was chosen to serve as my school's 2015-2016 teacher of the year. I am very honored and humbled to receive this recognition from my peers. In 2014-1015, I was granted the opportunity to receive a class set of iPads based on a technology proposal I had written. My students will get to use the iPads as long as I serve the students in Lowndes County. PetSmart gave me a grant for a classroom pet. We chose a bearded dragon, named Spike, who has helped to teach my students about ecosystems, adaptations, and food chains!
I decided that I needed to be a part of the school system after the birth of my first child. I went to college, worked, and raised my three awesome children while I gained my BS of ECE from Valdosta State University.
I am married to my best friend. We enjoy spending time with family and friends, fishing, hunting, and traveling.
