Before graduating from college, I worked in various positions at a private preschool for several years. I assisted and taught in both the 2 year old and 4 year old classes. While at this school, I was also in charge of the afterschool tutoring program for grades K-6 and I was over the summer tutoring programs. After graduation, I began teaching at a local elementary school. I have been teaching as a certified teacher since 2006. I spent my first two wonderful years of teaching in Pre-K, 10 years as a first grade teacher and I am now teaching Kindergarten.
I believe that all students can learn and should be afforded the best opportunity to do so. This means that it is my job to meet them where they are and provide them with rich learning adventures. Each child that walks in my classroom is not only my student, but they are someone's child. I treat them as I would want my children treated. I first strive to reach my students where they are, and remember that each and everyone has a different story and different needs.
I was nominated and voted in as Teacher of the Year of my school for the school year 2011-2012. I made it to the top 5 in my school district.
I graduated from Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina in 2006 with my BA in Early Childhood Education. I graduated with my MA in Administration from Capella University in 2011. Currently, I am working on my Educational Specialist degree in Educational Technology.
I am happily married with four children. I truly love my career and the children that I get to see each and every day! I enjoy camping, horse back riding, the beach, reading, scrapbooking, spending time with my family and friends, and photography.
