I have been teaching kindergarten for 21 years. I currently teach a full day kindergarten with a balanced literacy approach, along with math, science, and social studies.
I have a teaching style that incorporates music, poetry, singing, and in general having a lot of fun with my kinders! I encourage my children to speak out, ask questions, and to be curious. I want them to be excited about learning every day. I have several class pets, with plans to get at least two more! It teaches my kids compassion, caring, and responsibility. We have two guinea pigs, a red eared slider turtle, a fish, and a hermit crab. I love science and I want my kids to be excited about it too.
I am currently working with another teacher on our elementary school garden. We were recently awarded the Best Overall School Garden in our state! It is so exciting to see how our school garden is growing and changing each school year. It is so wonderful to hear our students say, "I can't wait to go to the garden".
I currently hold a National Board Certification in reading and literacy for preschool through middle school. I also have a master's degree in reading and literacy.
My family at school and at home are so precious to me. My kids at home and at school are "parents" to 2 guinea pigs named Reggie and Max, a red eared slider named Spike, 2 fish, and a hermit crab. My oldest child is in high school and my youngest is in middle school. My husband is also in education as a dean of students/assistant principal. We love what we do in education, even when it seems to be our whole world at times. We hope that everyone sees the best in their kids no matter what happens at school in the classroom or with your own personal children at home.
