I am a retired educator who began her career as an SLD Teacher in a Junior High School. During that stint, I taught Reading, LA, Math, Civics, and Learning Strategies. After becoming certified in Reading, I transferred to a high school to teach both remedial and advanced reading classes. The opportunity arose to become a Reading Resource Teacher that later lead to a Reading Coach position in middle schools. As a Reading Resource and later a Coach, I have presented workshops at school, district, state, and national levels.
For students to learn, they should be actively involved in the lesson. Based on that premise and pulling from my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis in Theatre, I have crafted many lessons and workshops that include some aspect of Creative Drama. Coming from an Exceptional Ed background, I have long understood the importance of Modeling, Guided and Independent practice. My Introductory Lessons are usually the "Modeling" step that allow for some guided practice, but do not include the Independent piece.
