I am a skilled educator with experience in secondary and higher education and a passion for global awareness and intercultural sensitivity. Over the course of my career I have developed curricula, mentored student teachers, advocated for non-English speaking students and tried to keep abreast of ever-changing trends in pedagogy For the past 16 years I have been teaching at an independent, international (IB program) high school in Cambridge, Massachusetts. My work focuses on ESL in both the IP and IB programs.
I fully embrace the IB's philosophy of incorporating the "learner profile" into my pedagogy. Colleagues and students consider me to be a dynamic teacher. It is important for me to ensure that students feel able to invest themselves in the content of my class. This requires me to have a good understanding of my students' interests and abilities. My goal is to provide a challenging, yet engaging classroom environment.
Yet to be added
I have a B.A. in French from University of Massachusetts and an M.Ed. in TESOL from Boston University.
I have travelled extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East - have lived in several different countries as well! I am a native English speaker use French very often in my work life. Other languages that I've played around with include Spanish and Arabic. I had the opportunity to travel to China with a teacher education tour. It was fascinating and humbling and left me wanting to return again some day! When I'm not teaching, grading papers, or developing curricula, I can be found walking my faithful four-legged furry friend, pumping iron at the gym, or meditating on soil, light and water in my garden!
