I have been a high school science teacher for eight years and through that time I have taught almost every core science class including biology, chemistry, and Earth science. Recently I have changed my classes to standards based grading and inquiry design.
I believe that all students have the ability to do science because problem solving is fundamental to being human. To accomplish this goal my classroom is a safe and open environment where students are praised not just for being correct but for critically thinking even if their final conclusion is not correct. I also believe in and practice standards based grading, multiple and varied assessments, and alternate grading scales such as the four point scale.
