I have seven years teaching experience at the high school level. My main focus is ELA, however I have taught U.S. History and social studies as well. I have taught all levels of students from honors (PreAP) to foundations and everything in between. I have experience team-teaching in a U.S. History/American lit blended class well where I was able to channel my background in U.S. History and combine it with my skills in ELA.
My teaching style is pragmatic, but I tend toward letting students do most of the talking. I'm the facilitator. I want them to figure things out on their own that the learning may be more relevant and meaningful. Students sit in four person teams and I employ a variety of cooperative learning strategies in my pedagogy, most notably Kagan. Moreover, I take great care to develop assessments and lessons that incorporate real world contexts to make learning more relevant.
Yet to be added
I currently hold a BS in Secondary Education Social Studies from Northern Arizona University. I am also fully certified in ELA as well and have spent most of time teaching in that field.
Stories and connecting stories to our loves is my first and truest love. I love creating activities where students can apply learning to multiple contexts that have relevance outside the classroom.
