TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a middle school Language Arts and Social Studies teacher! I am currently teaching in an alternative school which serves 5th-8th graders. This means that we have a fluctuating group of 5-12 students from any of those grade levels in our building at any given time. Due to the small nature of our numbers these grade levels take classes together in a mixed ability setting. Adaptation and differentiation is key! In the past I have taught Language Arts in a large public school setting with classrooms of sizes up to 30 students at a time. This was one of the biggest challenges of my life and I hope to create resources that can help teachers in those settings in order to take one of many tasks off of their plates!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach in such a small setting that I am able to use some great resources. I integrate technology quite often. My students each have access to a chrome book, I have a smart board set-up, and students have school based google accounts to be able to interact in google classroom as well as share resources and assignments with each other and myself. I like to encourage my students to put in the effort to figure things out for themselves when appropriate and to find the answer or resource on their own. I want to help them become more self-sufficient. I am in an alternative school setting where students need a place of structure and safety alongside empathy and support. I fit well into this setting due to being a laid back, patient, and calm person. This is evident in my teaching style. I am very clear and consistent with my expectations. My students know that I have high expectations but that I am flexible and compassionate as needed.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I went to undergrad at Miami University of Ohio and earned a Bachelor of Science in Middle Childhood Education with endorsements in Language Arts and Social Studies. I began my career as an after school program director for 2 years in Ohio. I then moved to coastal Virginia where I taught 4 years of Language Arts, and am now in New Hampshire teaching in an alternative school.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Outside of teaching I am a mother, artist, and baker. I love to snuggle with my little boy (as seen in my profile picture). I enjoy painting and drawing. I have a shop on Etsy in which I sell my art. I also love baking cookies, especially macarons! I am currently working on setting up a shop in which I will sell my cookies and macarons, focusing on gluten free, and lactation aiding recipes! Yum!
