I have enjoyed teaching all age groups for over thirty years. Initially, I taught small classes of young people with autism. This was a highly rewarding, though often exhausting, job as coupled with the basic skills I was teaching - English and Math - I also had to make sure my students could use these skills in a social context, which was sometimes the hardest part for the young people to grasp. I moved on to teaching numeracy and ICT classes in schools and colleges throughout north west England, and a highlight of my career was being awarded a Distinction in the National Teaching Awards after a somewhat painstaking assessment of my lessons by ex school inspectors!
My teaching style has been described as energetic, fun filled and (please forgive the lack of modesty) inspirational. Within a theoretical paradigm I feel my teaching style is most closely linked to Vygotsky's theories of teaching and learning.
