TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Dayton Society of Natural History is a team of museum educators in Dayton, Ohio with over 102 combined years of teaching experience among 8 educators, teaching all ages from Pre-K through College/Adult Learners

MY TEACHING STYLE

Each museum educator brings their own unique philosophy of education and teaching style. Multiple teaching styles are represented among the museum educators, including informal and formal instruction; costumed tours and activities; museum presentations; kinesthetic, inquiry-based learning; literacy applications; cross-curriculum instruction; blended classroom techniques; and discussion-based, student-centered approaches

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Members of the Boonshoft Education team have won awards in their respective areas of study: • Astronomy: Awards for Planetarium Content Creation, published in 3D World Magazine for work on worldwide planetarium show, SpacePark360, and Most Original Contribution to Astronomy Visualization • Environmental Science: Sustainability Fellow Award and Climate Ambassador Award • Leadership: Volunteerism Award and the Better Business Bureau Non-Profit Integrity in Leadership

Each team member of the Dayton Society of Natural History has relevant experience to enhance student learning with the created content. • Alyssa leads top-notch mobile animal education programs and has experienced years of field biology, including time spent researching in the Galapagos. • Makenzie has over 13 years of geologic and palentologic experience. • Jordan has spent time examining how education is done within exhibit spaces of a museum. • Courtney has been coaching FIRST LEGO League for over 15 years. • Jason has been working as the lead artist for the award-winning tech company Dome3D, LLC and is a co-owner of Once Upon a Thyme Bookshop with his wife. • Vicki has co-written a complete copyrighted curriculum for young adults with disabilities to learn soft skills. • Julia is Project WET certified and has worked in various science fields such as wildlife management, higher education laboratories, and water/product laboratory testing.
