This will be my 5th year in my current position where I teach 9th grade, 9th grade honors, and 10th grade; I also serve as the co-department chair. Overall, I have had 10 years of teaching experience in all high school grade levels from rural to urban to suburban school settings. I LOVE teaching, and I especially love teaching writing - hopefully, I can share some of my successes with you.
Creative lessons and authentic assessments that engage students on individual levels are the basis of my practice. I set high expectations and strive to help students reach them in ways that are meaningful to them. I constantly gauge student progress through both formative and summative assessments, a practice that enables me to deliver high-quality instruction and to create classroom communities that promote deep structural understanding and transfer. I am enthusiastically committed to lifelong learning, and I actively work to share and model my intellectual curiosity with students by providing experiences that promote collaborative learning, critical-thinking, and real discovery.
