TEACHING EXPERIENCE

In addition to having 9 years of teaching experience within the secondary and tertiary education sectors, I have also gained invaluable experience within the fields of medical research, scientific and medical policy, event management and project development.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching philosophy is based around the principles of DCI – Differentiation, Context and Inquiry. I seek to enhance student engagement and learning enjoyment by developing materials that accommodate diverse learning needs, as well as demonstrate how and why lesson content is personally and socially relevant. Rather than just create single activities based on middle-of-the-road capabilities, I use a ‘step up, step down, step across’ approach to develop multiple versions of tasks. The resultant activities not only accommodate the needs of average students but also those with learning challenges and those who would benefit from extension activities. And given that real world phenomenon do not solely exist within neatly contained subject areas, I also show how lesson content and learning materials can also be linked to other curriculum areas. By drawing on my rich working history, I am able to develop material that is not only differentiated, but also context-driven and therefore relatable and relevant to students. In addition, my materials also offer opportunities for students to be active participants in their learning journeys by incorporating inquiry-based activities.
