TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching high school English and history classes since 2000. I have taught freshman English, as well as a senior literature class which I created, called Cold War Literature. I have also taught U.S. and World History, and I teach a Wars of America history class which I also created from scratch.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I pride myself on using a variety of source and media to engage my students in thought provoking and also entertaining lessons. Everything I do is not only well researched, but immediately revised and improved upon after teaching. Thus, over the last ten years, each lesson has evolved and been improved/modified based on feedback from students and co-teachers who were a part of the lesson.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Considered in 2004 for Disney's Teacher of the Year. Recognized in local paper for my hands on work within my self created Wars of America class and for it being very popular within my school and a favorite class among students.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BA degree in Secondary Education with a double major in English (certified to teach 6-12 grades) and History (certified to teach 6-12 grades). I have a minor in Psychology and Humanities.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I started teaching later in life (at 33) so I bring an experience and maturity to my classes and lessons that many younger teachers lack, yet I have embraced new technology and media so I am able to connect better with students than some of my peers my age.
