I have been teaching since January 1990, when I took over a Kindergarten class mid-year (Yikes!). I've worked in an inner-city magnet school, a public Montessori school, and overseas in a DODDS school among others. The majority of those years were spent in K and 1st. I am currently at a public PK-8 school of visual and performing arts where I am one of three Gifted Education Resource teachers. My highest degree is an EdS in Teacher Leadership and Brain-based learning. I also have state cert. in Gifted Ed. and have participated (as most of you) in too many trainings to mention! Whatever the flavor of the month is, right?
I am an early childhood educator. I believe thematic teaching is the way to go, making connections between subject areas and connecting personal experience with topics in the classroom. I'm a hands-on, visual learner so I do tend to design lessons that address that. I believe in student-centered teaching that allows for plenty of choice and use menus (or choice boards) quite a bit with my gifted students. I believe that just because an activity is labeled "enrichment" or "gifted" it is appropriate for ALL students.
Several awards as a sponsor of entries in the International Media Festival. Awarded mini-grants in technology for my students. Have a pretty cool trophy from a student last year for being a "great teacher"
