I have been a homeschool mom, special education teacher, occupational therapist, and reading specialist over the past 30 years. I love teaching and I especially loved learning with my own children. Four years ago my teaching took a new turn and I became a reading specialist. This has been especially meaningful to me as I was a struggling reader for most of my years in school.
I believe every child learns differently so my style tends to be very multisensory. I enjoy creating and finding materials that I believe will be meaningful to the students that I teach. I especially love playing games with my students. This is very motivating. I have recently begun using my i-Pad as well. This is also quite motivating and I find that students who are a bit oppositional about attending my reading group are super excited when I say we can use the I-pad.

I have a Master's degree in Early Childhood Special and Deaf Education and in Occupational Therapy. I am certified as a Special educator, deaf educator, elementary teacher, and reading teacher. I am finishing my last class to become certified as a reading specialist. I hope one day to become a board certified reading specialist.
I am a wife to a wonderful husband who makes braces and artificial legs. He recently began his own business doing that. He is really good at what he does! I have 4 wonderful children. My oldest is 24 and my youngest is 19. 2 of my children have graduated college. 1 is still in college. My youngest is taking a hiatus from college and teaching math to struggling students and doing advocacy work.
