Hello everyone! Thank you for stopping by. I have been teaching young people for 9 years now but have been an educator for over 20years. It has been wonderful and as much as I teach, I learn. I currently reside in a Kindergarten classroom and the learning from these amazing young people never stops. Each year is a new experience and I am constantly challenged to see the world differently through their eyes. I hope you found something that will help you in the classroom. Cheers!
I believe learning should be fun and interesting. I create a daily intention to spark imagination and creativity. I encourage children to be active learners and disciplined, creative thinkers, to learn to make good choices and to work cooperatively, and to be kind and responsible. I want them to care a great deal about themselves, family, friends, and their world. I want children to love coming to school each and every day. That's a lot of pressure but for most this is their first experience with school. I want them to look forward to the next grade. I have developed a passion for teaching kindergarten and cherish what it has given me in return. It is amazing to love going to work everyday. I absolutely love my job. My philosophy is simple. Create the right environment and children will learn.
After a Mo Willems author study unit a student came to school wearing a very cool Piggie and Elephant shirt. The student was very excited and assured me I could buy one too and went on to write out instructions on where to go to buy a Mo Willems t-shirt. Our procedural writing unit put into practice. It's a memorable moment I won't forget and inspires me to keep teaching. (... I still have the instructions)
First I completed a degree in Athletic Therapy but was very intrigued by the mind - learning theories, behaviour, and cognitive development. I then went on to complete a degree in Psychology with Mount Royal University and Athabasca University. Since then I have added several certificates through the IB program and Kagan Cooperative Learning. Recently I began iTunes U training to increase the technology side of my teaching. Staying relevant and fresh is important in an ever changing world. Our youth is our future.
I absolutely love teaching children to read. You can actually see the excitement wash over them when they first read with full comprehension. When reading words in isolation becomes reading for enjoyment. It's super amazing!
