I have been teaching since 1992. I have taught both regular school years, intercessions, and summer schools. I have been a tutor. I am certified for PreK-K// 1-6//ESOL K-12. I have taken classes for the Reading Specialist Endorsement and the Gifted Student Endorsement. I have at one time or another taught every grade K-9 and had wonderful experiences.
I love to start out in a structured environment and after getting to know my students we are usually changing partners and groups often and learning together. But the first weeks are the weeks where the students learn that I am fair but firm, and sometimes a little funny.
I received an award for "Excellence in Primary Science" and was featured in CABLE IN THE CLASSROOM magazine. Nickelodeon gave my first graders cases and cases of treasure for our lesson on Fossils. My classes have made their own public service films and sold copies of their musicals to make money to buy books. I have been nominated Sallie Mae teacher of the year, and voted Mainstream Teacher of the Year in my school. I have been a candidate for the Disney Award for Excellence and featured in many news articles over the years in Central Florida newspapers. I authored a column for my school for three years in The Observer. I have been the grade chair and enjoyed that honor very much.
After graduating UCF in 1992 I have taught in three counties in central Florida mostly in the 1st and 5th grades. I have subbed a LOT! So....baptism by fire! Have taught Gifted, ESOL, ESE. Can fit in anywhere at anytime doing anything! I am who I always wanted to be when I grew up.
My husband, David, and my little dog, Abby are my greatest supporters. Dave does all my artwork and puts my packets together. Without him I could not do this. Abby cheers for both of us as we work and is patiently waiting for us to play with her. I grew up in Chicago and did not get to be a teacher until I was in my thirties. I had no encouragement except in my own mind but I followed my dream and I am a teacher.
