I have taught grades K-2 for 19 years, and have always loved helping students as young as 4 to learn to work cooperatively to build social skills, as well as independently in their follow-up work. My Centers are always designed with differentiating in mind for teachers, so that very little needs to be done by the teachers to adjust for rigor.
I am FUN, creative, and chatty so I design my Centers in this way as well! Students have structured dialogue, and so even the shy children learn that when they are the "teacher" (the child with the mystery bag), or if it is their turn in Go-Fish, they must communicate with their peers as part of their turn. "Productive noise" as I like to call it! Follow up activities address multiple learning styles, and I would not have it any other way! Not only do kids learn their #s, # words, Math fact fluency, High-Frequency Sight words, and Spelling patterns, but they also get to practice polite, appropriate social interaction daily.
I was awarded "Teacher of the Year" at my elementary school, and am honored to work with a staff of not just colleagues but also very dear friends.
