TEACHING EXPERIENCE

For 15 years, I was a 21st CCLC After-school Program Coordinator with the Anchorage School District. I oversaw an academic enrichment program with 75-100 students in grades K-6 and 10-15+ staff and volunteers. I previously taught English in Tokyo, Japan for five years. I come from a long line of teachers going back to the first public school teacher in a small town in Minnesota. My sister, Deneen Bozeman, was 1st and 2nd grade teacher in the Anchorage School District for twenty years. She was a teacher mentor, student teacher host, Adjunct Professor, BP Teacher of Excellence nominee and listed multiple times in Who's Who Among American Teachers. Whenever I visited her classroom, students were well behaved and actively engaged in learning. I began to observed her teaching style and methods. She created many of her materials using common, easily found items. I began to incorporate her materials into the afterschool program and during family nights. Over 15 years as a Coordinator, my sister's materials continued to prove to be the most popular amongst students and staff. Deneen passed away in 2009 from an aggressive melanoma on her last contract day after twenty years of teaching 1st, 2nd or a 1st/2nd combo in the same classroom at Campbell Elementary. The majority of the items I will be posting on Teachers Pay Teachers will be those of her own design. I continue to use these activities in my new position as Resident Engagement Coordinator working with families for a public housing authority. I can personally tell you, they are tried & true!! Deneen entrusted her materials to me to share with others. A portion of sales will go to the Deneen Bozeman Hands-On Literacy Fund. One of Deneen's dreams was to bring hands-on literacy and book mobiles to rural communities and villages in Alaska.
