I taught 5th grade ESL (SEI) immersion and K-6 ESL pull-out in public schools until I had my first child. I home-schooled my own children in religious studies and foreign language when they were younger. Then, I taught art at a Jewish Day school, using my experience of a B.S. in Communication and Fine Arts. As the school has grown immensely, so did the art position, but I wanted only part-time work. I switched positions and became the elementary reading Interventionist at the school, using my M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction and my Reading Endorsement. Now, I am available for private tutoring during the school day or after.
I have an approachable, flexible, firm, and respectful teaching style. I show respect to my students who in-turn, are accepting of my teaching/my lessons. It's the idea that ESL guru Stephen Krashen and neuroscientists refer to as the 'affective filter' - a non-verbal, emotional wall that students put up to block their learning. Our job as teacher is to "lower the affective filter" to allow learning to take place. My products are brain-based, fun and engaging. Students are supported, not threatened by the activities, and feel motivated with my educational games and hands-on activities, which happen to be standards-based and brain-based. I understand that students have different learning styles, life experiences, and fears when they walk into my classroom. Therefore, my approach is to be respectful, flexible, and create lessons using various modalities to help students acquire the learning in several different ways.
Yet to be added
I have a B.S. in Communication and Fine Arts specializing in Graphic Design. I have an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction and both the Arizona ESL (SEI) and Reading endorsements.
I make original games and activities and sell them in my online store the Teachers Pay Teachers online marketplace. My focus is on creating educational resources that work well for whole class instruction, center activities and as intervention tools, while saving teachers time and money. My educational resources are brain-based (activating multiple sense modalities and making new neural pathways for learning and retention). Instead of worksheets, items in my online store use movement games, interpersonal social skills, and fun. This helps strengthen academic foundational skills whether children have developmental delays, are English language learners, or typical students.
