I have taught social studies for 9 full years between two outstanding districts. Courses taught include: Ancient World History, Modern World History, Civics/Government, Introduction to Psychology, United States History, A.P. United States History, and A.P. Human Geography.
I am a firm believer in using the approach called the Gradual Release of Responsibility. This provides scaffolding to all students of all levels within the same classroom. I believe in teacher modeling of new concepts, guided practice, group work, and providing multiple opportunities for independent mastery. Students are at the center of instruction. Many of my lessons are centered around discussions, debates, inquiry, and using social studies content as the vehicle for learning new skills.
