TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a credentialed Adult Educator since 1994, with over 400 hours of professional development in Adult Learning Theory and Instructional Systems Design. For 12 years I taught in a county jail. I taught GED subjects, employment skills, addiction recovery, and parenting to incarcerated adults. After I moved to the east coast, I worked for the federal government as an instructional designer and training specialist. I created and taught lessons in policy and procedure along with multiple soft skill classes.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach using the best practices of andragogy (the art and science of teaching adults), which differs from pedagogy. Adults resent being treated as children, so respond with enthusiasm when learning material and methods that respect their life experiences and autonomy. I try to include in every lesson collaboration work, practice exercises, and other activities that appeal to all learning styles.
