Hello! My name is Judy Grant and I am a special education teacher. In 2017, I moved to Round Top, Texas and began teaching junior high Life Skills in Bellville, Texas. Prior to teaching in Bellville, I taught in Pearland ISD for twelve years. I taught PPCD and elementary Life Skills. My students skills range from students who are non-verbal to students who are fluently reading. I needed curriculum that offered errorless learning and curriculum that engaged all my learners. This is why I created TPT lessons for diversified learners. Many of my students need help with social skills. Keeping that in mind, I have created social skills products that are based on real incidents that my students face everyday. Topics include personal space, being nice on the playground, to not getting to check out books at the library when you haven't returned the ones previously borrowed. Another topic of interest to me is CVC words. By teaching our students CVC words with graphics, they are more likely to remember the words and be able to recall them. My students have shown great improvement on recalling words as well as building communication skills by pronouncing the words correctly. CVC words are one of the best building blocks to students learning to read.
My motto is "Keep Calm and Teach On!" My students are on different levels and have different learning styles. Sometimes my class can get a little crazy. I have learned that if YOU stay calm, then your students are more likely to remain calm. This motto is true in any classroom. Another big aspect of teaching is to always be prepared. I always have activities that I can pull out in case we finish early, or the lesson is not going well. In the classroom, I love to get messy. Children benefit from sensory experiences and I try to build activities into my daily routine. Sensory experiences can also provide enriching outlets for being creative.
GCASE Teacher of the Year Nominee, December 10, 2010
I received my masters in Early Childhood with a Focus on Special Needs from the University of Houston - Clear Lake in May 2009.
I love teaching. I hope that my lessons will provide you with the tools that you need to work with differentiated learners in your classroom.
