Jessica and I are firm believers in differentiated instruction. We both teach second grade in co-teaching friendly connected classrooms (convenient classrooms that make it easy for co-teaching and safe for students). We have created a curriculum that caters to the needs of all academic levels. We pre-assess all students before each unit and use the scores to separate them into learning groups. We have two different lists for spelling instruction, six different guided reading groups, and three levels for all other subject areas. With both of our classrooms being inclusion rooms we have a wide spectrum of students working at a kindergarten level all the way up to a fifth grade level. Our curriculum meets the needs of all of our students and teaches and assesses them on their own academic level.
Our school's reading scores were the highest of all elementary schools across three counties.
