I taught first grade for 8 years, 2nd grade for 2 years, and am currently teaching 3rd grade for the first time. I love teaching primary grades and making a difference. I create materials that engage my students and provide knowledge about experiences that they may never have in our rural town.
I teach in a rural community in which over 60% of the students live in poverty. Because of this I teach with Ruby Payne's "Framework for Understanding Poverty" in mind and in action. A mutual respect, understanding of the students "hidden rules" and teaching of rules that will make students successful at school and work are key components of teaching most of my students.
